Women's Basketball Unable To Hold The Line Against Wellesley

BOSTON, Mass. – A 19 point showcase by Wellesley's Leslie Leong combined with a 45% team shooting average from the floor gave the Blue the boost they needed Tuesday night as the Emerson Women's Basketball Team fell 69-54 to Wellesley. The Lions are now 3-2 overall and 1-1 in NEWMAC action while Wellesley improves to 3-2 on the year and 1-1 in conference action.

The first half saw the Blue come out to pound out points in the paint as they put up 20 near the hoop with Leslie Leong dropping 12 to lead the floor. Sienna O'Han, Janissa Delzo and Elizabeth Horan all stepped up for EC to put up six points each to try and keep pace with the Blue as they rolled into the break leading Emerson 36-26.

The Blue came out again in the second with power on the inside with 18 points in the paint, this time with Leslie Leong and Ailis Hanley both putting up seven points for Wellesley. Janissa Delzo continued to do work for the Lions though with seven points of her own and five rebounds. Rookie Elizabeth Horan also got after it with six points as well going 2-for-5 from the three-point line. Kristin Brice also jumped in on defense as well, with three blocks to try and stifle the Blue, but ultimately the Lions couldn't keep pace, falling 69-54.

The Lions return to NEWMAC action after the Thanksgiving break when they'll host Wheaton on December 4 in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym at 7 p.m.
