Chojnicki's Red-Hot First Half Leads Women's Basketball Over Mount Ida
BOSTON, Mass. – Elissa Chojnicki's first half fire and Kristin Brice's 21 led the way for the Emerson Women's Basketball Team as they took a 70-61 win from Mount Ida Tuesday night. With the win the Lions improve to 10-11 on the year and 6-4 in conference play while Mount Ida falls to 6-16 overall and 0-9 in the GNAC.
The first half saw Elissa Chojnicki drop 14 points like they were hot, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the floor with four threes to ignite the Emerson offense. In the half the Lions shot 48% from the floor and 83% from the line to start pulling away from Mount Ida.
The Mustangs hung tough though as Abbey Fedigan led Mount Ida with 11 points in the half. Overall though the Lions were completely dominant as they put up 16 points in the paint with Kristin Brice putting 10 while Catherine Cloutier collected six points and seven rebounds as Emerson rolled into the half up 37-23.
The second half saw the Mustangs kick in some horsepower as they stepped up the offense and defense in the half holding Emerson scoreless for over six minutes. MTI kept chipping away at the lead, eventually tying the score at 44-44. Allison O'Connor for Mount Ida lit up a three next to take the first lead of the game for the Mustangs and set EC on their heels.
The lead didn't last long though as the Lions fired back and clicked back into sync with Kristin Brice doing work for 11 points as Emerson pounded the paint for 14 points in the half. The bench jumped in to make the difference again though with 10 points with Kelsey Johnson claiming eight of them as EC pulled away with the 70-61 final.
The Lions hit the road again this Thursday as they set to travel to Chestnut Hill, Mass. to face the Pine Manor Gators. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
