BOSTON, Mass. – Kristin Brice and Shannon Norton combined for 42 points on the day as the Emerson Women's Basketball Team posted a 72-66 win over the USJ Blue Jays Saturday afternoon. With the win the Lions improve to 9-11 on the year and 5-4 in conference play as the Blue Jays drop to 11-7 overall and 4-4 in the GNAC.
The first half saw Shannon Norton light it up again in the half dropping 15 points on the Blue Jays to lead the floor as she drained three of her four attempts from beyond the arc. Kelsey Johnson came off the bench to power in eight points as well as Emerson threw down 18 points in the paint.
The Blue Jays stayed in it though as Claire Consonni came off the bench to put up 10 points to lead USJ with Heather Framski following suit with nine of her own. The Lion defense stepped up though, forcing 11 turnovers for 13 points as EC headed into the break up 37-31.
The second half saw the Blue Jays battle back as Heather Framski putting up 12 points while USJ put up 20 up close in the paint to stay on Emerson's heels. Kristin Brice heated up in the second half though as she dropped 14 of her 20 points on the day.
The Lions put together a team effort to keep USJ at bay though as Shannon Norton scored seven while Elissa Chojnicki and Catherine Cloutier put up four each as well while Cloutier dominated the boards for five rebounds in the half as EC rolled off with the 72-66 final.
The Lions return to the home court this Tuesday as they set to face the Mount Ida Mustangs. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. in Boston, Mass. at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
