Women's Basketball Falls 61-43 to No. 12 Tufts

BOSTON, Mass. – A double-double from Kristin Brice led the way Tuesday in a physical match-up for the Emerson Women's Basketball Team as they fell 61-43 to tenth-ranked Tufts. With the loss the Lions are now 2-5 on the year while Tufts improves to 7-0.

The first half saw EC come out to stun Tufts a little as the Jumbos struggled to accumulate points, shooting only 24% in field goals in the half. Kristin Brice powered the Lions in the half with eight points as she battled in the paint while pulling down five boards to keep EC in the hunt.

For the Jumbos, Kate Barnosky made the difference as she dropped 10 on the Lions in the half, going 4-for-7 from the floor. Tufts edged away in the half with five points off turnovers and four on fast breaks as they rolled into the break up 24-15.

The second half saw both teams step up the intensity as the Lions spread the offense more in the half, with Kristin Brice putting in another eight while tailed closely with Shannon Norton with seven. The Jumbos put up big under the basket though as they scored 20 points in the paint on EC as they started to push the deficit higher on the Lions.

Tufts also hit the gas on defense as well, forcing 10 turnovers and putting in eight points off of them. Kate Barnosky put up numbers again for the Jumbos with 11 points while Hayley Kanner owned the paint with eight of her own as Tufts finished off the 61-43 final.

The Lions will hit the road this weekend as they set to face Fitchburg State this Saturday. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Fitchburg, Mass.
