Women's Basketball Puts On An Offensive Showcase In 94-87 Loss To Rivier
NASHUA, N.H. – Catherine Cloutier and Kristin Brice combined for 45 points on the day as a scoring spree broke out in the Emerson Women's Basketball GNAC opener Saturday. In the end the Rivier Raiders were just able to pull out the 94-87 win on the day as Emerson is now 2-4 on the year and 0-1 in the conference and Rivier moves to 4-2 overall and 1-0 in the GNAC.
The first half saw EC and Rivier go head-to-head in nearly everything on the floor, except the Lions heated up beyond the arc as they went 8-for-11 from three-point land with Elissa Chojnicki going a perfect three-for-three as Emerson made it rain.
Catherine Cloutier jumped in to join the fun as well with 12 points in the first half, putting the Raiders off guard with Emerson putting up 24 points in threes and 10 points in the paint. While the Lions put up seven points off of turnovers, the Raiders paced the game with eight points off fast breaks as both teams headed into the break tied 44-44.
The second chance saw the Raiders lock in on the Lions three on the arc, holding EC to a 2-for-6 second half. The Lions outshot the Raiders 43% to 40%, but the difference was the long ball again as this time around Rivier dropped seven threes on their own, shooting 64% from beyond the arc.
Turnovers bit the Lions again in the half as the Raiders took 12 points off of them. With the defense collapsing on Catherine Cloutier, it was Kristin Brice's turn to shine as she dropped 15 points on the Raiders. Cloutier still scrapped to 10 points with five rebounds in the half, but in the end, the Lions couldn't keep pace with Rivier's 21 points in threes, falling 94-87.
The Lions will return to their home court this week as they set to host the Tufts Jumbos Tuesday night in Boston. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym and will be aired live on ESN.
