BOSTON, Mass. – The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) has named Emerson's Brittany Rochford and Shannon Torosian to the All-Region New England Team as announced by the NFCA Monday. Recipients of All-Region Team honors are also eligible to be named to the NFCA All-American Teams to be announced prior to the start of the 2013 Division III Women's College World Series.
Rochford, a First Team selection, led the Lions in the 2013 season with a .385 batting average for 27 runs scored off 47 hits with 10 doubles, two triples and two home runs for 23 RBIs. On the year she went 5-for-6 in stolen bases while producing a .549 slugging percentage and posting a flawless fielding percentage.
Torosian, a Third Team selection, was a powerhouse for the Lions as well, swinging .348 on the year while starting all 37 games for Emerson. On the year she scored a team-high 29 runs off 40 hits with eight doubles, a triple and three home runs for a .513 slugging percentage. She was also a flawless 7-for-7 in stolen bases while posting a .926 fielding average as one of the best shortstops in the GNAC.
The Emerson Softball program closed out their 2013 season with a 22-15 record and a second place regular season finish in the GNAC.
