Shannon Torosian's Bat Leads the Lions Against Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. – Shannon Torosian put up another huge day for the Emerson Softball Team, batting .625 with five hits, two runs scored and six huge RBIs as the Lions swept the Rivier Raiders 7-0 and 5-2 to close out the regular season. With the wins the Lions clinch second in the GNAC while improving to 22-14 on the year and 19-5 in conference play.

Game one sent out Alicia Daniele for the Lions where she was masterful, throwing the complete game shutout, allowing only three hits and striking out five. Both teams were quiet on offense until Emerson as Shannon Torosian put up an RBI single to short for a 1-0 lead.

EC tacked on another run in the fifth and sixth with an RBI single from Bianca Buono before Shannon Torosian cracked a solo shot to center for the 3-0 lead. The seventh is when the Lions broke it all open with four runs off three hits with another two RBI double from Torosian as Emerson laid down the 7-0 win.

Game two gave Alexandra Magistro the ball where she also allowed a paltry three hits in the complete game and five strikeouts. It was again the third inning before any action started with Torosian doing the dirty work again with an RBI single. Riv answered with a run of their own in the bottom of the inning before taking the lead in the fourth with another run.

Emerson wasn't to be denied though as they rolled right back over the Raiders with four runs off three hits in the sixth while playing off some RU errors as well. Bianca Buono put up the highlight of the inning with a two RBI triple while Torosian per usual, put the cherry on top with another RBI for the 5-2 win.

The Lions will now set to face-off in the GNAC Tournament. They'll host the Raiders on Wednesday in an 8 p.m. game at Rotch Field in Boston, Mass.
