Today the Emerson Lions defeated Lesley in short order, winning three straight sets. From the get go it was clear that Emerson was ready to play. They were overall a much larger team than Lesley, which allowed them to make more plays over the net. Emerson also displayed an impressive amount of misdirection, often getting Lesley to commit to one side of the court only to find the ball hitting the ground on the opposite side. There were a few moments in the second and third sets where it seemed like Lesley could have taken control thanks to efforts from Jess Cherry and Tyler Burns , but each time Emerson managed to match intensity with intensity; as a result of their solid play they never trailed throughout the match.
Emerson was led by Jackson Wiley, whose 18.5 points total across the three sets matched Lesley's whole team's total. He put on a show with his athleticism, leaping higher than anyone else in the gym and making some impressive saves. It was a real team effort from the Lions, though; they saw solid play from every member of the team. Between Stig Regan's defensive plays, the offensive contributions of Ben Hillman and Connor Burton, and the overall teamwork, it was clear after the first set that Emerson was too much for Lesley to handle.
The Lion's play next at Mt. Ida on February 3rd, Game set for 3:00pm.
