Team Effort Sends Men's Volleyball Past Mount Ida In Sweep
BOSTON, Mass. – Jackson Wiley's 13 kills and Dimitri Gorenc's five block assists combined Wednesday night as the Emerson Men's Volleyball Team stepped up to sweep GNAC foe Mount Ida 25-16, 25-13 and 29-27. With the win the Lions are now 9-10 overall and 4-6 in conference play as Mount Ida falls to 8-16 on the year and 2-9 in the GNAC.
Set one saw Connor Burton tear it up for five kills to lead the floor and a .333 average while Brendan McGonigle getting it done all over the court with four kills and nine assists in the set. EC's defense stepped up as well for three blocks two solo from McGonigle as Emerson took off with a 25-16 win.
Set two saw Jackson Wiley put up six kills in the set for a .400 average while the Lions defense went off again for four blocks in the set with Dimitri Gorenc putting up two assists. EC was clicking on all cylinders as well, putting up a .364 average as a team with four service aces to rip past the Mustangs 25-13.
Three sets was all it would take for the Lions even though the Mustangs fired back as they pushed 10 tie scores and four lead changes on EC. Emerson fired back down 22-24 though to knot it up and send it to extra points. Tom Carroll helped quarterback the team through the set as well, stepping in as setter with Jackson Wiley and Connor Burton combining for nine kills en route to a 29-26 win.
The Lions continue GNAC action tomorrow as they set to host No. 5 Rivier at 7 p.m. in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plokfer Gym.
