BROOKLINE, Mass. – With Alex Frapech flooring 14 kills and Nadav Swarttz swinging .875 on the night the Emerson Men's Volleyball Team proved to be unstoppable, sweeping Newbury 26-24, 25-22 and 25-17 Wednesday night. With the win the Lions improve to 5-4 on the year while the Nighthawks drop to 0-3.
Set one saw the Lions come out full throttle as they clicked into high gear immediately, swinging .406 as a team. Frapech led the way for EC with six kills for a .444 average while Nadav Swarttz hit .750, flooring nearly every ball he touched. The Nighthawks battled back with a .333 average of their own to force five tie scores and three lead changes, but in the end Emerson prevailed with the tight 26-24 win.
Set two saw the heat from both offenses cool off a bit, this time with Newbury outhitting Emerson .269 to .250. In the end the Emerson serving saved the day though as the Lions collected three service aces, two from Alex Frapech alone to win by three 25-22 and take the 2-0 lead.
Emerson wasn't interested in playing four though as they came out in the third set to crush a .417 team attack percentage while the defense held the Nighthawks to a paltry .062 in the set. Alex Frapech swung .750 in the set while Nadav Swarttz batted 1.000 while collecting a solo block to close out the W 25-17.
The Lions return to GNAC action next Wednesday as they set to head to Emmanuel for a 7 p.m. match in Boston, Mass.
