Emerson College Athletics is pleased to announce that Francisco Javier Mejia-Blau will be taking over the new role of Full Time Head Coach for the Men's Soccer Team. He re-joins the Lions after being an assistant coach with Assumption College.

In addition to his extensive collegiate coaching experience, he also spent a season with the Boston Breakers, a professional Women's Soccer team.
Coach Mejia expressed his excitement about the new position, "I am eternally grateful to Director of Athletics Patricia Nicol, Senior Associate ADs Erin Brennen and Stan Nance, as well as the hiring committee for selecting me. As a former assistant coach, associate head coach, and Emerson College student-athlete; I feel a responsibility to do everything in my power to help this program grow and achieve great things with the continued support of the athletic department. I have some big shoes to fill, taking over for my friend and mentor Jared Scarpaci, but I look forward to the challenge!"
Coach Mejia played his freshman year of college at Division I Hartford University in Connecticut, before transferring to Emerson College in 2001. As an Emerson Lion he was a two year captain, Junior and Senior Year, and helped lead the team to the most successful season in program history, going 14-6 (2004).
After finishing his undergrad at Emerson, Coach Mejia went on to earn his Masters in Sport and Recreation Sciences with a focus in Soccer Coaching from Ohio University. This is the first sport-specific coaching degree offered in the country, and he is one of the first 11 students to earn this degree.
Athletic Director Patrica Nicol said that "We are excited to have Coach Mejia join the Emerson family as the College's first full time men's soccer coach. As a former Emerson student athlete and Associate Head Men's Soccer Coach, Javi brings a unique perspective and understanding of the College which will serve him well in the recruitment of student athletes to Emerson. His coaching background and philosophy of building a team that will sustain academic and athletic excellence, parallels the core values and mission of Emerson College. I am extremely confident and look forward to Coach Mejia building on the foundation that has been laid and bringing the men's soccer program to the next level of excellence."
