Men's Soccer Toppled By Springfield

BOSTON, Mass. – A dominant showcase by the Springfield College led the Pride to a 6-0 win Saturday afternoon over the Emerson Men's Soccer Team. With the win, SC improves to 5-2 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC while Emerson now holds at 4-3 and 0-2 in conference action.

The Pride wasted no time in the first half as they put away the first goal of the game in the first two minutes as Danny Amato teed up a free kick for a cross to John Mankus who dropped it into the left corner. Carter Bowers was put to the test in the half with three saves off of the 11 shots by SC to Emerson's four. In the 11th minute of action Ryan Malone found his foot on a rebound that he tapped across to Danny Amato who quickly made it 2-0 where it remained the rest of the half.

The second half saw some more offensive fireworks by Springfield as this time they ripped 14 shots to the Lions' three in the half. In the 65th minute of action Danny Amato took care of things solo as he ripped a free kick past the Lion defense to make it 3-0. Ten minutes later saw SC strike again with Ryan Malone taking a breakaway ball into the left corner from Drew Sommer.

Drew Sommer struck again with the assist as he lined up Jack Moran in the 83rd minute after beating EC's goalie for a tap into the left side. The Pride closed it out in the 88th minute of action, this time with Drew Sommer doing the dirty work as he put a pass from Drew Vanasse into the left corner of the net to pull the score to its 6-0 final.

The Lions will return to their home pitch on Wednesday as they set to face Emmanuel at 6 p.m. in Boston at Rotch Field.
