BOSTON, Mass. – Jacob Lawrence's goal and assist fueled a second-half surge for the Emerson Men's Soccer Team Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Norwich Cadets 2-1. With the win the Lions are now 7-7 on the year and 4-4 in conference play while Norwich holds at 8-5-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the GNAC.
The first half saw the Cadets come out with some steam as they outshot Emerson 4-to-2 with Carter Bowers doing work in net with two saves. The Cadets struck first in the half as Bowers came out of the box as Wesley Keslin dropped a cross to the left of the box that Anthony Amell put away to make it 1-0.
Coming out of the break to open up the second half, the Lions looked renewed as they tripled their offensive output with six shots. It took EC a mere five minutes to put up the equalizer as Jacob Lawrence dropped a pass to Jon Havens who put up his fifth goal of the season to make it 1-1.
With the game even, it got a bit chippy between both teams with Norwich putting up eight fouls in the half and Emerson being awarded a yellow card in an attempt to curb the physical play.
As the clock hit the 69th minute though, Jacob Lawrence came through again with his second game winning goal of the year as Ole Erikson split the defense with a pass up the middle that Lawrence one-touched in.
With the win the Lions roll on in their 2012 campaign, as they set to host Anna Maria this Wednesday with a 5:30 p.m. start time in Boston at Rotch Field.
