BOSTON, Mass. – A barrage of 41 shots by Norwich University was too much for the Emerson Men's Lacrosse Team to withstand Tuesday night as the Lions fell 14-7 to the visiting Cadets. With the loss Emerson is now 2-7 on the year and 1-6 in conference play as Norwich improves to 6-3 overall and 6-0 in the GNAC.
The first quarter saw the Lions come out strong as Max Smith struck first for his 17th goal of the year off an assist from Nicholas Kitsos only 58 seconds into the game. NU answered rapidly though with four unanswered goals to put EC in a 4-1 hole. They answered though with another goal by Smith after a set-up from Harry Whitney before Tyler Hastings added his fourth of the year at the end of the quarter to stay on NU's heels 4-3.
The second quarter saw the Lions come out full-steam again as Brandon Lavoie's goal in the third minute knotting it up before Eric Colleran threw down a pass from Benjamin Byrd to take the lead again. The defense broke down after though as Norwich went off for three more goals to take the 7-5 lead headed into the break.
Coming out of the break, Norwich looked to settle down more as they put up two more goals to start inching away from the Lions before Brandon Lavoie struck again for his eighth goal of the year with Nicholas Kitsos on the assist again to make it 9-6. Another two Norwich goals were answered by Benjamin Byrd's nasty shot with 38 seconds left in the period, but NU bettered it with on with four seconds left to make it 12-7.
