NEWTON, Mass. – Nicholas Kitsos dropped a hat trick on the host Mustangs Tuesday afternoon, but the Emerson Men's Lacrosse Team were unable to pull out a victory, falling 20-8. With the loss the Lions are now 2-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play while Mount Ida moves to 4-6 overall and 3-0 in the GNAC.
The Lions struck first on the day with the first goal of the game coming off a pass from Nicholas Kitsos to Brandon Lavoie in the fourth minute of action. The Lion defense faltered in the eighth minute though to let Mount Ida knot it up. EC took the lead again with 5:52 left in the half with Brandon Lavoie striking again. Ida didn't waste time though tying it and taking the lead to close out the first up 3-2.
The second saw the Mustangs try to push their lead more with an early goal, but Emerson went back-to-back after as Max Smith went unassisted before Brandon Lavoie set up Eric Colleran to make it 4-4. Mount Ida posted three unanswered goals though as they started to pull away at the break up 7-4.
The Mustangs went on a tear after the break though, scoring six more without a word from Emerson to make it 13-4. Benjamin Byrd finally broke the silence after Nicholas Kitsos set him up for success to make it 13-5. Two more goals to close out the third quarter up 15-5.
The fourth held no respite for the Lions as four more Mustang goals poured in with three from Michael Markevich alone as the score turned to 19-5. Nicholas Kitsos added his first of the day with 3:26 left in the game before ripping off two more for an unanswered hat track on the Mustangs. MTI closed out the game with one last goal as the scored pulled to its 20-8 final.
The Lions jump back into GNAC action this Saturday as they travel to Emmanuel to face the Saints. Game time is set for 3 p.m. in Boston, Mass.
