LEICESTER, Mass. – Max Smith and Brady Darragh put away three each in the fight, but the effort fell short Thursday night as the Emerson Men's Lacrosse Team fell 12-7 to Becker. With the loss the Lions are now 2-3 on the year and 1-2 in conference play as Becker improves to 3-6 on the year and 2-2 in the GNAC.
Both teams came out fired up BC took the lead off with a man up off an EC penalty. The Lions answered though with Benjamin Byrd putting up an assist to Brady Darragh to knot it. Becker rallied back though with three unanswered goals to take the 4-1 lead. The Lions cut the lead in half though with Max Smith banking his first of the day from Eric Colleran to make it 4-2 after one.
The second quarter saw more D as the Lions outshot the Hawks 8-to-5. EC struck back first with Benjamin Byrd going unassisted to make it 4-3, but the Hawks came back a minute later with their own to head into the half with the score 5-3 Becker.
Emerson started the second half well with Eric Colleran connecting with Max Smith to chip away again, but Becker answered the call again to make it 6-4. The Lions weren't about to call it though as Max Smith struck again with two minutes left to make it 6-5. The Lions defense faltered in the last seconds of the quarter though which the Hawks took advantage of to make it 7-5.
The fourth looked to keep it close as BC scored early again, but Bardy Darragh kept it close with another goal to make it 9-6, but BC then stepped up the pace with three unanswered goals to put it out of reach. Darragh struck again in the last seconds to make it 12-7 to close out the loss.
Emerson will continue GNAC action this Saturday as they set to travel to Saint Joe's Maine. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
