BOSTON, Mass. – Four goals from Nichloas Kitsos weren't enough to keep the Wentworth Leopards at bay Saturday afternoon as the Emerson Men's Lacrosse Team opened up their 2013 season with a 21-7 loss. While the Lions fall to 0-1 on the year Wentworth improves to 3-0.
The first period started off well for the Lions as Emerson took to the scoreboard first with Max Smith setting up Tyler Hastings to make it 1-0 EC.WIT fired back though with two quick goals to take the lead. It was short-lived though as Hastings connected with Kitsos in the 11 minute of play to knot it before a literally last-second goal by Eric Colleran to give Emerson the lead 3-2 lead.
The second period was all Wentworth though as they went on a tear for seven goals in the period. Ryan Coakley put away two of his own while also setting up another of the goal as the teams headed into the break with WIT up 9-3.
The third period didn't show much respite for the Lions though as the Leopards kept at it with four more goals before Emerson broke the spree with Brady Darragh dropping a dime to Benjamin Byrd who pocket his first collegiate goal. WIT answered with two more goals until Nicholas Kitsos struck again with another Brady Darragh assist.
The fourth period saw the Lions start strong with Nicholas Kitsos's third goal of the game, but five more WIT goal edged the Leopards even further away. The Lions looked to end on a high note though with Nicholas Kitsos pocketing the last goal of the game with Brady Darragh's third assist to close out the 21-7 final.
The Lions will now travel to Leicester, Mass. this Tuesday to face the Becker Hawks. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
