BOSTON - The Emerson Lions men's basketball program announced Tuesday their schedule for the upcoming 2017-18 season. Looking to rebound from a seven-win campaign a season ago, the Lions can point to their experienced players returning for this season, including five players who started a majority of the games for them in 2016-17.
The men's team plays nearly the entire month of November away from Bobby Brown & Steven Plofker Gym, opening the season on the road on Nov. 18 at Newbury College at 1:00 p.m. The only home contest scheduled in November for the Lions is a Nov. 21 tip against Suffolk at 7:30 p.m.
On Nov. 25 and 26, the Lions compete in the UMass Boston Harbor Invitational with details still to be determined. The Lions finish the November slate with games at Dean College and Emmanuel on Nov. 28 and 30, respectively.
Two difficult opponents open the month of December for the Lions starting with Amherst on Dec. 2 and Tufts on Dec. 6. Amherst was an at-large bid to the 2017 Division III NCAA Tournament, while the Jumbos made it to the final 16, before being eliminated by Babson.
Emerson finishes the pre-winter break schedule with three road games; Dec. 9 at Curry, Dec. 12 at Lesley, and Dec. 16 at Gordon.
Following the break, the Lions get their first taste of NEWMAC play, welcoming Coast Guard to Brown & Plofker Gym on Jan. 3 at 7:00 p.m. From Jan. 3 to Jan. 27, the Lions play eight games in the NEWMAC.
Back-to-back road games on Jan. 6 and 10 against Clark and MIT, respectively, precede a three-game homestand for the Lions. On Jan. 13, Springfield College comes to Brown & Plofker Gym for a 1:00 p.m. tip. The Lions welcome WPI on Jan. 17 and Emerson rounds out the homestand with a Jan. 20 contest against Wheaton.
Jan. 24 the Lions travel to defending NCAA Division III Basketball National Champions, Babson, for a 7:00 p.m. tip, before returning home on Jan. 27 to face MIT.
The Lions finish the month of January on the road at Wheaton on Jan. 31 at 6:00 p.m.
Emerson rounds out the 2017-18 season with the final five games against NEWMAC opponents, starting with a Feb. 3 contest at Springfield.
The Lions return home on Feb. 7 to play Clark, head back on the road on Feb. 10 to face WPI and have a Valentine's Day date at home against Babson, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Finally, Emerson wraps up the regular season by traveling to Coast Guard on Feb. 17 for a 1:00 p.m., Saturday matinee.
