BOSTON, Mass. – Patrick Lowndes' double-double and Michael Thorpe's 15 points were the highlights on the night as the Emerson Men's Basketball Team dropped JWU 59-47 Monday night. With the win the Lions improve to 10-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play as JWU falls to 10-10 on the year and 9-4 in the GNAC.
The first half saw a fast start for the Lions as they jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Lions shared the wealth on offense as Brian Hurley put up eight points while Patrick Lowndes and James Rhodes put up six each.
JWU stayed in the hunt with 10 point from Esaie Touze alone, who collected seven boards along with it. EC made the difference with a little painting though as they put up 14 points in the box to JWU's eight en route to a 26-22 lead at the half.
The second half saw the Lions throw down in the paint with 20 points up close and personal. Michael Thorpe led the way for Emerson as well in the half, dropping 10 points while shooting 50% in the half.
JWU made the effort to stay in it with Quarry Greenway leading the Wildcats with 13, but nearly nothing got past the Emerson rebounding corps as they pulled down 21 to JWU's 15, six to Jon Goldberg and Patrick Lowndes each. Lowndes also stepped up on offense, powering in six points in the half to close out the W 59-47.
The Lions will hang home for their next game this Thursday as they set to host Lasell. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Boston at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym.
