BOSTON, Mass. – James Rhodes and Brian Hurley put up 13 points each to fuel the fire for the Emerson Men's Basketball Team who took a 68-59 win from Norwich Tuesday night at Emerson's Brown-Plofker Gym. With the win the Lions are not 7-7 on the year and 5-2 in conference play as Norwich drops to 4-10 overall and 1-6 in the GNAC.
The first half saw the Lion offense explode out of the gates with James Rhodes coming off the bench to drop four threes on the Cadets while collecting 13 points in the half. Mike Carbone was a lethal addition off the bench as well for six points for two threes as well to give the bench 25 of EC's 35 points in the half alone.
While the Cadets hung in the game with Josh Cabera putting up nine and Evan Tullar dropping eight as Norwich outshot the Lions 46% from the floor to EC's 41%. The difference was made in the paint though as EC put up 14 points to Norwich's 10 while also collecting six points in the paint to head into the half up 35-24.
The second half saw the Cadets make a game of it, shooting 50% from the floor as Josh Cabrera broke out for 12 points while Alex Preckol dropped seven on the Lions. EC was ready to play as Brian Hurley was nasty in the paint, pouring in 11 points for Emerson.
The Lions spread the offense out more in the half as well, with Jon Goldberg and Patrick Lowndes both dropping six in the half as well. Emerson's new profession seemed to be painting though as they put down 22 points in the key en route to closing out their fifth win in conference action, 68-59.
The Lions resume GNAC action this Thursday as they travel to Rivier to face the Raiders. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Nashua, N.H.
