LEWISTON, Maine – James Rhodes' 16 points, 12 in three pointers alone combined with a second half surge kicked open the door on the Emerson Men's Basketball Season Friday afternoon as they topped Fisher 62-48. With the win, EC opens with a 1-0 record on the year while dropping Fisher to 3-1.
The first half saw the Lions come out a bit sluggish for the event as the Falcons just barely edged EC in shooting percentage, turnovers and rebounds in the half. James Rhodes and Jon Goldberg led EC with six points each even as the Lions looked to settle down and get into their offensive rhythm. The Falcons swooped in to take full advantage of it as well, headed into the break up two, 25-23.
The second half saw the Lions flip the script on Fisher though they jumped out to drain 43% in field goals as well as 60% of their three-point attempts. James Rhodes heated up for ten points, spurring on the Emerson defense as well with teammates Jon Goldberg and Patrick Lowndes patrolling the boards for 14 rebounds between them.
Emerson also topped Fisher in nearly every category as well, including forcing eight turnovers, five of which were steals from the thieving Lions. Rookie Michael Thorpe also jumped into the fray in the second half, draining eight points to help bolster EC to the 62-48 win.
The Lions will now play Bates in the tournament championship game Saturday afternoon in Lewiston, Maine.
