Women’s Soccer (11), Men’s Soccer (5), and Volleyball (4) Named to All-Academic Teams

BOSTON – The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference announced their list of 2017 All-Academic Teams for those participating in men's and women's soccer and volleyball, a list that contained 20 Emerson Lions.

Women's soccer and their 10 members include seniors Laura Gartelman and Alexandra Levin, who have made the All-Academic Team every year since becoming eligible in 2015. Senior Laura McGuire and juniors Rachel Lord, Jess Frost, Elizabeth Noble, and Kira Venturini all make their second-straight All-Academic Team. Paige Haley, Alexandra Hanson, Sarina Bailif Curtis, and Veronica Alberts make their first appearance on the list for women's soccer.

Men's soccer contributed five student-athletes including a pair of back-to-back appearances by senior Lucas Fischer and junior Joao Vieira. A trio of sophomores rounds out the men's soccer group as Gavin Faucette, Brian Petterman, and Parker Hughes all make their first appearance on the All-Academic Team in their first year of eligibility.

Women's volleyball added four more members to the All-Academic Team including senior Halley Dewey, who makes the list for the first time. Three other first-timers, a trifecta of sophomores make their first appearances in their first year of eligibility. Kayleen Bertrand, Jessica Braunstein, and Jaime Groele complete the list of All-Academic Team student-athletes.

The 20 student-athletes were among a group of 190 NEWMAC student-athletes named to the All-Conference Academic Team for men's and women's Soccer and volleyball. Separately, women's soccer totaled 95 members, men's soccer added 55 players, and volleyball contributed 40 more.

Honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2017 spring semester, achieved second-year academic status at their institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.

The New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference consists of 11 highly selective institutions committed to academic excellence: Babson College, Clark University, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, Emerson College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Mount Holyoke College, Smith College, Springfield College, Wellesley College, Wheaton College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
